Ash Wednesday
As a religious Academy we ran services on Ash Wednesday for all students and staff.
Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent, which lasts for 40 days.
Lent is a time of preparation for Easter and it ends on Holy Saturday.
The school community came together to mark Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. We thought about how the church year encourages us to explore times both to celebrate and times to ‘say sorry’. We read the story of Jesus tempted in the desert and thought of how we are often tempted to do things that are easy but that are not right. We spoke of how God both forgives and forgets all our sins when we are sorry, and we listened to a song track on forgiveness while watching a powerpoint.
As it was Ash Wednesday we invited the students to receive the sign of the cross on their foreheads as a mark of repentance for anything they may have done wrong. An exciting number of students took this opportunity.
