Forthcoming diary dates
National Star College Visit
Year 11 Sports representatives were invited to go and see the brilliant work that goes on at National Star College on 7th February.
On 9th March All Saints’ Academy will be holding an event to fundraise for National Star College. The day will involve all 850 students taking part in a 2012km challenge.
The 2012km challenge is part of the ‘Gold Challenge’ which is an initiative set up to encourage sport and raise money for charity. Each house has a challenge of walking/running/rowing/cycling 2012km within the day. Each student will be seeking sponsorship from family and friends. We hope for the day to be fun and potentially raise a lot of money for National Star College.
Claire Duffy National Star College’s Fundraising Officer praised the sports representatives from All Saints’ Academy. She said ‘I would like to compliment the students who participated in the visit, they were very polite and interacted really well with our students, they are a great reflection on your school.’
During the trip All Saints’ students had the chance to play disabled sport Boccia and Volleyball. All Saints’ students were teamed up with NSC’s students to form 4 teams. In the volleyball tournament the All Saints’ students had restrictions put on them such as having to sit down, wearing an eye patch and using their weaker arm only. The students all seemed to enjoy themselves and the All Saints students certainly learnt a valuable lesson regarding taking their mobility/sight for granted.
In partnership with the British Olympic Association, Sport England and Team GB the Gold Challenge provides an opportunity school to not just watch the Olympics but take part and raise money for charity at the same time!
Two students from All Saints’ Academy will be chosen to represent the Academy and attend a special event being held at the Olympic stadium in April. The event will culminate in a number of celebrity and athlete races and an exciting and colourful show.
